1. Introduction

This Privacy Notice explains how UNIABIDJAN collects, uses, shares and protects your personal data when you visit this website or interact with us as an enquirer, applicant, student or member of our community. It should be read alongside any more specific notice we give you when we collect your data.

2. Who we are

The University of Abidjan (UNIABIDJAN), located behind Pharmacie St. Bernard, Rue Docteur Irène Kassi-Djodjo, Cocody Riviera, Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, is the data controller responsible for your personal data under Loi n° 2013-450 on the protection of personal data. You can contact us about this notice at info@uniabidjan.edu.ci or on +225 07 79 60 0002.

3. Information we collect

We collect enquiry and contact details (name, email, phone and your message); application and admissions data (academic history, transcripts, qualifications, references, identity and immigration documents, and funding information); student record data once you enrol; and technical data about your visit such as IP address, browser, device and pages viewed. Where relevant, we process special-category data, such as disability or health information, only with your consent or where the law allows.

4. How we collect your data

We collect data directly from you through forms and correspondence, automatically through cookies and server logs, and occasionally from third parties such as schools, referees, funding bodies and publicly available sources.

5. How we use your data

We use your data to respond to enquiries, to assess and process applications, to deliver and administer our programmes, to keep you informed about admissions and events, to meet our legal and regulatory obligations, and to improve and secure our website. We do not sell your personal data. We will only use your data for the purposes for which we collected it, unless we reasonably consider we need it for a compatible purpose. Where we send you marketing messages, you can opt out at any time using the unsubscribe link or by contacting us.

6. Legal bases for processing

We process personal data on one or more lawful bases: your consent; the performance of a contract with you; compliance with a legal obligation; and our legitimate interests in operating the University, where these are not overridden by your rights. Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time.

7. Sharing your data

We share data with service providers who process it on our behalf under contract, such as hosting, email and application-processing services; with partner and awarding institutions where necessary; and with public authorities where required by law. Our service providers may only use your data on our instructions.

8. International transfers

Some of our service providers are located outside Côte d’Ivoire, so your data may be transferred and stored abroad. Where this happens, we take steps to ensure an adequate level of protection, consistent with the transfer requirements of Loi n° 2013-450, including any authorisation required from the supervisory authority.

9. How long we keep your data

We keep personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this notice, for the duration of your relationship with us, and for any period required by law. For example, we keep general enquiry data for up to two years, unsuccessful application data for up to two years after a decision, and student records for a longer period in line with academic and legal requirements. Full retention periods are set out in our records retention schedule.

10. Your rights

You have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, and to withdraw consent. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at info@uniabidjan.edu.ci; we aim to respond within one month. We do not carry out automated decision-making, including profiling, that produces legal effects concerning you.

11. Complaints

If you have concerns about how we handle your personal data, please contact us first so we can address them. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority, the Autorité de Régulation des Télécommunications/TIC de Côte d’Ivoire (ARTCI).

12. Security

We use appropriate administrative, technical and physical measures to protect your data against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. We have procedures to handle any suspected data breach and will notify you and the supervisory authority, ARTCI, where we are legally required to do so. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

13. Children

This website is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under the age of majority without the consent of a parent or guardian. Applicants below the age of majority should apply with the involvement of a guardian.

14. Cookies

This website uses cookies and similar technologies. For details of the cookies we use and how to manage them, please see our Cookie Policy.

15. Changes and contact

We may update this notice from time to time and will post any changes on this page. For any question about this notice or your personal data, contact us at info@uniabidjan.edu.ci or on +225 07 79 60 0002.
